The incumbent of this position will provide support to the Director
regarding day-to-day operations, providing expert advice, technical
support, and coordination for technical operations involving the National
Airspace System (NAS) and Nextgen efforts. The incumbent will also assist
the Director in achieving and maximizing operational Air Traffic goals.
Providing technical support, aid in strategic planning, facility planning
and integrated consensus building across ATO Service Units.
This position serves as a General Manager (GM) of the Chicago District in
the Air Traffic Organization (ATO), Air Traffic Service (AJT), Central
Service Area. The GM oversees and directs a highly technical workforce in
a complex, multi-disciplined organization responsible for the safe,
efficient, and structured movement of aircraft within the National
Airspace System (NAS). The GM applies extensive technical expertise in
NAS systems, equipment and procedures to coordinate air traffic
operations, technical workforce found in specific districts consisting of
numerous air traffic facilities of varying size, type, and complexity.
Manages and directs the highly technical multi-layered workforce found in
numerous Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic facilities of
varying size and complexity in a specific area. He/she has line authority
for overseeing and directing air traffic operations within his/her
assigned area, and serves as first level supervisor for Assistant General
Managers and Air Traffic Managers. Makes selections for all Air Traffic
Manager position in his/her assigned area and exercises operational
authority over Federal Contract Towers located in their respective area.
Serves as the second level supervisor for the area office immediate staff
and facility Operations Manager. Responsible for planning and directing
multiple activities and programs in a complex matrix organization within
an assigned area. He/she provides a single point of contact between the
field facilities in his/her Area, the Deputy of System Operations,
Regional Offices, Service Area Offices, Vice President for Terminal
Services and the customer community. He/she provides a seamless source of
information through 24-hour availability regardless of the issue or
magnitude of concern and provides a consistent response to the aviation
community on significant operational issues that arise in his/her
25% or less – The job may require up to 25% travel.

Candidates must show Specialized Experience, which is defines as:
- Must have held an FAA 2152 FV-J/FG-14 or above regional or headquarters
position for at least 1 year (52 weeks);
- Must have been facility rated or area certified for at least 1 year (52
weeks)at an ATS facility;
- Note: an employee who has been facility rated or area certified for at
least 1 year (52 weeks) in an ATS facility that is upgraded is considered
t meet the qualification requirements of the upgraded position since he
or she has been performing the higher-graded work);
- Must have held a MSS position for at least 1 year (52 weeks) in an ATS
- In addition, to be eligible, applicant must have held an MSS3 or MSS-4 or
FAA 2152 FG-14 or above regional or headquarters positions for at least 1
year (52 weeks).

Requirement for Security Clearance: This position is Level 2 (Secret)
which requires favorable adjudication prior to appointment, unless a
waiver is obtained.
