The Social Justice Engagement (SJE) Program Specialist supports the Social Justice Engagement SJE area of the Student Life Multicultural Center; creates, coordinates, and facilitates workshops and programming that provides knowledge about the core concepts of social justice, social identities and the construction of these identities, and forms of individual and systemic oppression; and skills on how to build sustainable coalitions, interrupt prejudice individually and through the organized advocacy; develops initiatives that promote dialogue about issues of diversity, equity and inclusion; manages and maintains cooperative relationships with campus departments, student leaders/organizations, community partners and members, emerging communities, external agencies and organizations; takes part in Multicultural Center committees; university committees; and external committees as appropriate; provides consultation for campus departments, and student organization to either increase their effectiveness of or add new initiatives and strategies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion; develops train the trainer programs when needed to increase Social Justice Engagement’s scale of operation; recommends new programs based upon research and stays current on literature related to social justice for methods and best practices; assists with the assessment of programming, workshops, trainings, and other initiatives from Social Justice Engagement; supervises graduate student; manages programming budget and controls expenditures with the assistance of the Assistant Director of Social Justice Engagement or another member of the Multicultural Center leadership team; present best practices in social justice engagement at local and national conferences.

Master’s degree in Higher Education, Cultural Studies or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; program planning experience, curriculum development, presentation and facilitation skills, dedication to, and knowledge of multicultural and social justice issues both locally and nationally; supervision and performance management experience.
Proficient in word processing and graphics applications (MS Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, etc.), some website management experience; willingness to learn, team spirit and have fun; demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to working with persons of diverse cultural, ethnic, gender, spirituality, and sexual identities, as well as persons with disabilities.
Target Salary $47,500.00 – $50,000.00 Annually
