Serve as chief accountant for the Madison Inner City Asthma Consortium (ICAC) Administrative Center. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining ICAC financial records according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Accountant works directly with ICAC Principal Investigators, ICAC site grant administration staff, and the ICAC Administrative Center Manager, and will be a key contributor to budget analysis, preparation and negotiations; revenue allocation decisions; cost reconciliation and assignment; financial systems development; and day-to-day financial matters. The Accountant will make financial data easily accessible to PI’s and staff; educate PI’s and staff on grants/contract management; and serve as liaison with department, School, Campus, and agency/sponsor grants and contracts management personnel. The Accountant will serve as lead worker for ICAC Administrative Center fiscal staff.
The Accountant will hold a key position in a highly successful clinical, academic and research unit. In 2002, the NIH-NIAID created the Inner City Asthma Consortium (ICAC) via the awarding of a nearly $62 million contract to the UW-Madison, SMPH, Department of Medicine. In 2009, the UW successfully competed for the ICAC2 contract, receiving an additional $56.3 million. The UW currently is participating in ICAC3 with total support of $70 million. The Accountant will have a critical auditing and reporting role in ICAC. Given ICAC’s current and projected volume and complexity of financial activity, it is essential for management purposes, the daily conduct of business, and for general auditing considerations, that a professional-level accounting presence be established and maintained within the unit.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor degree strongly required.
Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
2 years experience required; 3-5 years experience preferred
Accounting experience and familiarity with UW-Madison accounting and financial procedures required. Grant experience pre and post award experience preferred
